During its Regular Meeting on November 24, 2021 , the Holy Spirit Catholic School Division’s Board of Trustees reviewed and approved its Annual Education Results Report from the 2020/2021 school year.

Though recent changes in Alberta Education’s requirements for reporting have shifted from a focus on “accountability” to “assurance,” the division’s results remain very high. Superintendent Ken Sampson attributes these results to the incredible work of division staff, “Our staff are exceptional and have continued to support our students academically, physically, emotionally, and spiritually, even in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic.”

“I am very impressed with the results that were provided to the Board in November,” states recently elected Board Chair, Dr. Carmen Mombourquette. “In particular, the 5-year High School Completion Rate for our First Nations, Métis and Inuit students is 80% this year. This is significantly higher than the provincial average of 68.1%. Clearly it is long-term and committed efforts of many of our staff - First Nations, Métis and Inuit Support Workers, Graduation Coaches, administrators, teachers, and other support staff - building strong and supportive relationships with our First Nations, Métis and Inuit students and their families that are now yielding these promising outcomes.”

Some other impressive results highlighted include:

  • 93% of students agree that their school is a community that helps them to understand their Catholic Faith, and 91% feel encouraged and given the opportunity to actively live their faith in the school and community.
  • 91.5% of our community feel confident that we are offering quality educational programming in our schools. This is above the provincial result of 89.6%.
  • 90.5% of our community feel that our schools provide a safe, caring and nurturing environment. This is above the provincial average of 87.8%

The Annual Education Results Report can be viewed in its entirety on the division website. A summary document of this report is now also available.
